Photo Tips

It is amazing how fast babies change.  Taking photos is a wonderful way of preserving those memories and moments that you don't want to forget.  Below are some tips to insure you get some great photographs for your announcement and more.  Great photos make for great announcements!

  1. Get down low
One key to taking great photos of your baby is by getting down to their level.  You can capture a more accurate portrayal of their expressions and features from this angle.

  1. Move in close
Don't be afraid to get in close.  Zooming in until your baby's face fills the frame can create some interesting and beautiful shots of their facial features.  Take a shot of their entire body and don't forget to capture their little hands and feet while they are still so tiny.

  1. Focus, Focus, Focus
An absolutely incredible shot will most definitely be ruined if the shot is not in focus or if the focus is on something other than your baby. For most cameras, holding down the shutter button half-way automatically focuses the shot, but check your camera manual to confirm this step.

  1. Keep it simple
There are two key elements that can distract the eye from your baby, the background and clothing.  Try to keep as little as possible in the background. Newborns lying on a beautiful solid coloured blanket usually make wonderful pictures. Put them in simple clothing with minimal pattern to help focus in on your baby's special expressions, rather than their outfit. Even a baby wearing a diaper is an adorable photograph.

  1. Try using natural light
Using your flash can sometimes wash out your child and create unflattering shadows, so try turning off your flash and taking shots outside or near a window where the natural light can give a more natural look for your picture.

  1. Keep your camera handy
You just never know with babies when those magical moments are going to happen.  By keeping your camera close by at all times you will get to capture your baby at different times and in different moods.

  1. Take lots of photos
By taking multiple shots of the same subject, you increase the odds that you will get the picture you want. Relax, have fun, and keep on shooting.  You can never have too many photos of your new baby!
